The Bankruptcy Administration Improvement Act of 2020 (BAIA) established an additional payment of up to $60 for eligible Chapter 7 bankruptcy trustees for fiscal years 2021 to 2026.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has advised the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts that it has funds available to transfer to the Judiciary to make additional payments to eligible Chapter 7 bankruptcy trustees for fiscal year 2024.
Bankruptcy courts will begin processing an additional $60 per case payment to eligible Chapter 7 bankruptcy trustees for applicable cases filed or converted in fiscal year 2024. Applicable cases are Chapter 7 cases filed on or after October 1, 2023, through September 30, 2024, or Chapter 11, 12, or 13 cases filed on or after January 12, 2021, that are subsequently converted to Chapter 7, on or after October 1, 2023, through September 30, 2024.
To assist with implementation, the Administrative Office of the United States Courts created a dedicated public webpage on uscourts.gov announcing that BAIA trustee payments will soon begin, and asking trustees to allow time for clerks' offices to process payments before requesting information or updates.
